Position Summary

Title:  Producer (Commercial, Personal, or Financial)

Location:  Headquarters – Clarence          

Department:  Sales

Reports to: Producer (Property & Casualty)

FLSA Status:  Exempt

The Producer is responsible for securing business that enables the agency to prosper and grow by acquiring new customers, retaining current customers, and cross-selling new policies to existing customers of the agency. The Producer acts as a consultant for businesses and families, evaluating needs and recommending the most appropriate means of meeting those needs.

Essential Responsibilities:

Sales & Marketing

  • Assisting in the development of the sales objectives.
    • Meets the forecasted premium volume and commission growth goals as established with Sales Manager.
  • Developing marketing strategies to promote new insurance contracts, along with upselling and cross selling of existing clients.
  • Building and maintaining influential relationships within the community, with prospects, and existing customers including;
    • Placing an emphasis on in person relationship building.
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with prospective clients for all insurance and risk management activities and facilitating increase in sales for existing clients.
    • Requests referrals from existing client base and respond to the referrals quickly and effectively.
    • Participating in community activities, service organizations, and networking groups.
  • Maintaining a cordial and effective relationship with clients, co-workers, carriers, vendors and other business contacts.
  • Interacting with others effectively by utilizing good communication skills, cooperating purposefully and providing information and guidance, as needed, to achieve the business goals of the agency.

Consulting

  • Identifying clients’ insurance needs, gaps in coverage, and loss exposures (insurable and uninsurable)
  • Designing insurance programs and recommending insurance coverage to meet customer needs
  • Pre-qualifying insurance prospects for insurability and quality of risk.
  • Obtaining accurate information from the prospects; including completing applications, supplemental questionnaires, risk surveys, property/risk inspections, and other related documentation in order to provide complete, comprehensive submissions.
  • Meeting agency standards for account receivables.
  • Reviewing client’s insurance programs annually and make recommendations.
  • Participating in continuing education and keeping informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.

Process

  • Setting priorities and managing workflow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.
  • Maintaining a concern for timeliness, accuracy, and thoroughness when interacting with clients, agencies, and company team members to minimize potential for error or omissions claims.
  • Accurately documenting client paper and electronic files with coverage discussions, quotes, declinations, and coverages changed or declined.

Other Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Certifications/Licenses Required

  • Brokers’ License required
  • Valid Driver’s License

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field preferred with a minimum of 3 years insurance experience sales or;
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of 7 years insurance sales experience.
  • Courteous and effective relationship building skills with clients, co-workers, carriers and other business contacts.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to utilize AMS360 or similar management systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Carrier Rating Systems.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
